Rootkit follow up

Just a follow up to that last post… Sony has released a program to remove the cloaking technology that hides their files (the rootkit) so if you have installed the software that comes with one of these CDs then be sure to remove it this way. Here’s a nice program to scan your computer for rootkits. It doesn’t remove them but it lets your know if your security has been compromised. Often the only way to get rid of them for sure is to format your hard drive.

i think that when the cd first came out that switchfoot issued a public apology about the anti-piracy stuff, and that you could return your cd to the store where you got it for one that actually works and doesnt harm your copmuter and stuff. Of course, that was way back when it was first released. Wait, maybe that was about something different. Anyway, heres the article off muchmusic.com:

Switchfoot Recalled
Thursday, September 29, 2005

Switchfoot took to their message boards recently to apologize for the extreme copy protection measures on their new CD. Many rock fans who bought Nothing Is Sound, released September 13, were dismayed to find the disc's copy protection software prevented them from making any copies of songs on the album, including onto their iPods. The label is offering new copies in exchange for the faulty discs.

I heard yesterday that Sony has issued a recall of all CDs with that software on them. That's going to cost them a ton of money.

I don't understand any of this, but I do like your blog! You need to make another entry.
